Game 8 Review

December 18, 2006

VANDERLAY INDUSTRIES DEF. REAL GUMBIES FC 10-4

Scorers: Greg Potter 2, Naveen Nadesan 1, Coomy(fill in) 1

Game Notes

Good: Passing was looking really good, especially in the second half. Some good setting up around goal keeping possession in defense. All round passing and communication at times was some of the best I’ve seen from us.

Bad: Their passing was extremely good and many times we got caught out in defense. We let them intercept goalie throws a few times to get easy shots.

Ugly: In the first half we got beaten out of the blocks. We didn’t score and gave away a 5-0 lead. Three of which came before most of us had settled into playing. It was a small lapse in concentration and intensity but meant we played the whole game from behind.

We were short on players and had fill ins who we won’t used to playing with. This could be part of the reason for the poor start before we settled. Over all I liked what I saw and saw more promising things than problems, despite our poor start. Everyone’s skills have improved tonnes over the last 8 weeks and thinking has too.

That’s our last game before christmas break. Which will give everyone time to recover from injuries and practise some skills. Have a good break over Christmas. And fire up for the big game against Eric Li in January :) .

Comment: Possession Football and Positive Football Thinking

December 12, 2006

I would say the last few weeks we have been playing mostly end to end football, relying on our pace to beat the man.

What we can also do is keep the ball. I thought raymond showed confidence a few times. I remember one time he did lose it because he was a bit slow, who cares, the next time he’ll probably get around the player. We should add this to our gameplan. Its not about slowing the game down. its about finding new angles to pass the ball into.

If you do intend to go slow while u have the ball, its easy for them to take the ball off you. So always have a plan of exactly what you’re going to do. Even if your plan everytime is to take it into the corner. Just know what u are doing. Never should u ask in your mind what u should be doing. Because by the time u figure it out, the situation has changed. People are making runs everywhere, the defender or defenders are coming at you so have what u are going to do in your mind BEFORE YOU GET THE BALL and just do it.

Lord Gumby’s Fortnightly Training Tip 2 – Energy Used v Energy Consumed

December 11, 2006

Guys,

Im back once again, with another special episode of Lord Gumby’s Fortnightly Training Tip. It might make it back to a weekly thing, but im won’t hold it upon myself seeing as i will be quite busy over the christmas break.

In regards to the topic today, and any other topics i discuss in this column, it is more about building the mindset rather than the physical nature of your body. I would say its almost a 70% mental 30% physical thing.

What happens with our mind is that when we haven’t done the required preperation we begin to have second thoughts. Just like in exams. In sport, it might be a touch of cramp, or a sprained ankle, and in a split second its all over.

In today’s episode its about energy used v energy consumed.

Let’s take a look at the basic data for energy

Fat 37kj/g
Protein 17 kj/g
Carbs 16 kj/g

Now going back to year 10 science, what happens to energy that doesn’t get used. its got to go somewhere and most likely if you don’t use the energy, your body stores it up.

so

Rule 1. Fatty foods have the most energy per gram. If you eat fatty foods you WILL GET FAT, not to mention kill yourself with heart diesease.

Now your average foods

Nando’s Chicken Burger – 2000kj
McDonald’s Cheeseburger – 1100kj
McDonald’s Big Mac – 2200kj
Muesli Bar – 500kj
Apple -150kj

And your average activities consumes

sleeping 300kj per hour
indoor soccer 1100kj per hour
walking 700kj per hour

You can find a lot more foods and activities on the web.

So the moral of the story today is – if you are skinny and want to bulk up eat MORE ENERGY THAN YOU REQUIRE. Go on plan it out – how much exercise do you do? now eat more. don’t eat fatty, sugary or high sodium intensity foods. that will kill you. check out the nutritional information on the back of the product. eat foods with high energy, low fat. and don’t eat it all in one go with three main meals a day – spread it out into 7 or 8 medium size meals. If you don’t your stomach will expand, and you will find it very difficult to adjust your diet if you want to trim down, because you will get hunger pangs.

If you feel too heavy and want to be lighter, EAT DIFFERENT FOODS WITH LOWER ENERGY. Your stomach only tells you you are hungry if you don’t fill it up. Having an apple, orange and banana will fill you up but only gives u 300kj. Having smaller meals 6 times a day cures those hunger pangs easily. im not saying only eat fruits. u need to have a balanced diet as well to get your vitamins and other essentials.

I know, ive tried bulking and trimming with these methods.

In an upcoming episode of Lord Gumby’s Fortnightly Training Tip – we’ll see how protein is the magic ingredient and how we take this information and go one step further and put some muscles on those bodies.

Game 7 Review

DRIFTERS DEF. REAL GUMBIES FC 8-5

Scorers: Naveen Nadesan 3, James Wong 1, Craig Schnuriger 1

Game Notes

Good: We can beat them for sure. I have noticed a significant improvement in all players since the first time we played and got beat 20-1. Everyone’s ball control is good. Or at the very least we are more confident with the ball.

Bad: We had injuries. Our defence broke down a few times. They had some shots at goal when their third player ran up and no one f******* covered him. Man up people.

Ugly: Outclassed in maybe one or two moments.  Some absolutely stupid mistakes like the free kick – ill take 60% of the blame, Nav you need to take 20%, and the defender, i can’t remember who it was that stopped playing needs to take 20%. Gave away two penalties. Lack of Communication.

Are people doing anything during the week by themselves? I played a practice game on tuesday, and as a consequence felt my touch last night was good. If you can’t find people to have a game with, do some fitness work or whatever to get you mentally prepared.
