Round 8 Review

HESKEY’S HEROES DEF. REAL GUMBIES FC 11-2

Scorer: Naveen Nadesan 2

What can I say? We were totally outclassed by a bigger, faster, more skilful group of players. We were dominated from the opening few minutes and were never able to salvage the situation.

Without making excuses, the Heskey’s forwards (especially the red-headed mini-fro guy) were individually brilliant, and unlike some of the players from other rival teams, they didn’t showboat with useless tricks. Instead, they passed quickly and accurately, took shots at every opportunity and did well in one-on-one contests (like Nav).  Their goalie also used a frustrating tactic of launching the ball back almost the entire length of the ground to the hulking forwards, who would head, volley or gather it easily to the team’s advantage.

Opportunities for us were few and far between but when we did find ourselves with a chance we couldn’t capitalise.  The major area we have to improve on is more talk and communication.  If you’re running up in space, call for the ball. Yell “man on!” to help out your teammates. And if you’re goalie, you must direct the defence – read the play upfield and give plenty of notice before it’s too late.  There were too many negative comments and poor displays of body language after we missed opportunities or stuffed up.  All this does is boost the spirits of the opposition.

The positives were that I noticed were that every player made the odd team-lifting tackle/effort/pass.  The problem is we’re not doing it on a consistent basis.

Wow – I knew they were decent, but didn’t realise it would be a thumping. Well if you get beat by heaps – no point getting upset about it. Game is OVER! Its frustrating obviously when you get the one chance to do something and it doesn’t come off. Unfortunately that big gap in your abilities and the oppositions abilities isnt going to be suddenly overcome within 40 minutes of soccer.

So enjoy it for the time being and remember the only way to improve is when you have the ball at your feet.

    Better luck next week.

    I didn’t have a good day…
let in 4 goals when I was goalie… didn’t even know how that happened.

that guy with the mini-fro killed us…
    he scored from everywhere…

also that awkwardly lanky guy was dangerous.

anyway I was sort off pissed off and gave up in the last frame.

The problem here is that our defenders are not GOAL SIDE to our opponents.

80% of the passes went over our heads.

Our goalies can throw just as far.

All you have to do when they try that is to stand goal side of the player. Get close to them (so you are blocking them) and slowly move your way towards the goal end, while watching the ball go over both of you. Then its an easy pass back to goalie.

The times where they do an easy pass with a header/volley is because our defense is un-organise and its a case of 2 attackers vs 1 defender.

Yes they did a few 1 on 1 shots, but most of them were open shots due to people either not running back, or standing in the wrong position(s).

On offense, there was still many people not looking up when dribbling, and randomly clearing the ball when you actually have the time to stop/control it, and pass it off.

  4. Lord Gumby Says:

Man – this randomly clearing the ball business has got to stop.

I can’t say too much myself because I have not been at the games and don’t know how much pressure the defenders are under.

Luma – it can’t be your fault if you let through four goals – unless they were real easy ones that you fumbled, then its the defence at fault and they need to tighten up.

Also – I hope people haven’t forgotten the basics of indoor soccer which is to stand goal side and take them to the nets.
